The whole story including the bad parts.

MeliusX is a Valorant coaching practice run by two people, based in Tirana. It began with a Discord call in early 2025, then fifteen players we coached for free so we could find out what actually helped them. Since then we have coached 115, learned that good advice on its own does very little, registered a company intending to scale, discovered that growing made our work worse, and ended up here: four players a month, both of us on every program. This page is the whole story in order, including the parts that did not go well.

FOUNDING POSITION

About three months into coaching our first group of clients, we noticed something we did not like. The players who improved fastest were the ones who already knew how to take feedback and act on it. They could sit through a VOD review on Monday and have the fix working by Wednesday. Those players climbed. The others struggled, and it was not because the feedback they got was any worse. It was the same feedback.

What separated the two groups was a skill nobody talks about. Being able to hear a correction, understand what it actually means for your own play, and then change what your hands do in a live game is difficult. Almost all coaching quietly assumes you already have it. If you do, coaching works well for you. If you do not, you can pay for excellent advice for a year and stay exactly where you are, which is what most people in this game have experienced.

Any coach can make Ronaldo better. That is not the interesting problem. The interesting problem is who can take an ordinary player and get them playing like Ronaldo, and specifically, who can coach the player who does not have a natural talent for coaching themselves.

That is the question we decided to build the practice around. The answer turned out not to be better advice. It was staying with the player while they used it. A routine built around one person's specific weaknesses. A record of what they actually did, so progress is something you can look at instead of something you have to feel. Feedback every week on how the exercises are being performed. Sessions recorded so the work can be revisited a month later. None of that is clever on its own. Together it makes improvement reliable for players who did not already know how to improve, which is most players.

WINTER · NORTH ITALY

// CHAPTER_01

Two people on a call, working out what to do next.

Daniel had spent a second year effectively locked out of Valorant by an internet connection that would not hold, watching the door to pro play close while there was nothing he could do about it. Joni had just finished building the operational side of his father's construction business and was looking for the next thing worth building. They got on a Discord call and asked each other a simple question: why not take the hours we are already putting into this game and make something real out of them?

APRIL · FIRST INTAKE

// CHAPTER_02

Fifteen players, free. Nine of them stayed.

We posted on Reddit and offered free coaching to a small group of fifteen, mostly so we could find out what actually helped people. By the end of the first month, nine of the fifteen asked to carry on as paying clients. We had not expected anything close to that, and we decided to take the signal seriously rather than assume we had got lucky.

// CHAPTER_03

One session at a time was not enough.

Players were improving, but unevenly, for the reason described further up this page. So we built the first version of the thing every program still runs on: a routine written around one player's specific weaknesses, and a tracking sheet so that progress became something you could look at rather than something you had to remember. It was rough compared to what we use now. It was also the moment the practice stopped being a series of sessions and became a method.

DECEMBER · INCORPORATION

// CHAPTER_04

Melius becomes MeliusX.

Eight months of getting better at the actual job. Coaching well turned out to be an entirely separate skill that we had to learn from nothing. By December the practice had earned a real business behind it, so we registered MeliusX. The plan at that point was to scale, because we assumed that growing was obviously the right next move. We were about to find out otherwise.

// CHAPTER_05

We chased volume, and it did not suit us.

We spent five months trying to grow. More players joined the community and on paper it was working. But we could not give any individual person the attention we wanted to give them. We could not go deep with anyone, we could not build a real relationship with anyone, and neither of us was proud of what we were producing. The finances were fine. The way we were working was not. So we stopped, which cost us money and was still the right call.

A small practice, and work we are willing to put our name on.

We rebuilt around what actually fit: a small intake of four players a month, and relationships close enough that most of our clients are people we would now call friends. Of the 115 players we have coached since 2025, 113 improved. Of the seven who came through the bespoke program in 2026 with a goal agreed in writing before we started, six reached it. The one who did not is our responsibility and we count it that way rather than leaving it out.
